Heels of steel – read all about our participants’ visit to ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in Duisburg!
Since the excursion day to our partner company ThyssenKrupp had to be cancelled during the Winter School 2015, eleven interested participants from course 27 hit the road to visit the steel plant of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in Duisburg – and it paid off! The impressive site is five times the size of Monaco and gets administered by 13.000 employers, the equivalent of a German small town. Four furnaces produce more than 30.000 tons of raw iron every day, 12 million tons of steel are generated every year!
The students obtained insights into the commodity preparation at furnace 8 (the newest one on the site), into the headquarters and into the steel plant with direct view on the converter. The following discussion round with our company contact Ms. Wieja and trainee Mr. Peine took place in a relaxed atmosphere, featuring the opportunity to ask the many questions that preyed on the participants’ mind. It was an all around successful visit with delighted students – many thanks to ThyssenKrupp for making this possible!
